HOURS!

Our countdown is not in days anymore...hours! First thing, we have to be thankful for is that Katherine's flight from her business trip to Miami did arrive back in Charlottesville tonight. There were some minor delays that had us sweating and she will have to catch up on sleep on tomorrow's flights, but we are thankful that we can journey on together!

We journey together.

Katherine created this blog so we can each contribute in the sharing of all of the excitement regarding our trip to Kenya! We will not be using phones during our trip so this will be the best way to check in on the bits we are able to post during our adventure and will hold a more full account of it and our reflections once we return. I don't want to spoil everything by giving you an itinerary ahead of time, but we do have a lot of exciting opportunities and a list of loose plans.

I mostly am writing tonight as I have been reminded so many times over the past day how this venture is not just about us and where we are going and what we will be doing and who we will meet and help and impact and on and on, but it is also about you, our readers-our family-our friends. So many have joined us as we planned, thought, prayed. Others joined to donate items, to work at, or visit us at our yard sale. Others have donated items or money for us to take or purchase supplies. Some have ordered jewelry from the woman with whom we will live for the two week stay. Some have simply kept a closer eye on the calendar than we have and consistently asked us about departure, plans, excitement level. All of this is appreciated. All of this supports and encourages us. All of this reminds us that we depend on others in this life in order to thrive. It reminds us that, though we are going, we carry you with us.

It is amusing and amazing that a little, unexpected conversation at Kaylie's art show in which Katherine expressed, "Oooh, I know it (Kenya) is going to be amazing. I would love to go back to Africa! I wish I could go with you or to visit you!" and I replied, "Me too...well, for the first time. Why don't we?" set this in motion.

Thanks for journeying with us!
Andrea
